At age 43, I had my first mammogram.
The mammogram wasn't as scary or painful as I thought it would be. The technician was very friendly and comforting.
A large area of abnormal calcifications was found in the
upper inner left breast. The
extent of the calcifications was approximately 9cm. An ultrasound was immediately done. The ultrasound examination showed the
presence of an irregularly-shaped nonvascular solid mass. The doctor wanted to do a biopsy right away. This process was a bit unnerving. The nurse pulled out four very long fat tubes with a think pointy needle like end. The doctor used a local anesthetic to numb the area, Then inserted the long tube to clip off a piece of the tumor. In all, four core biopsies were
taken and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
In a little over an hour and a half, I felt my life was going to change
drastically.
